Having survived a childhood that can generously be described as “awful” I've found it hard to know who I am or how to describe myself. For years I tried to make a “respectable” outward identity, but the shattered inner parts of me screamed in defiance. So I have learned to acknowledge the existence of the shattered parts, though often that has meant that all I have to hang onto is a bullheaded determination that I call tenacity.
